Wireless communication came into existence at the turn of the 20th century as the radio was invented. Since then, the society has been transformed by the power of instant communication making the world a small place. As radio waves freely travel through the air, wireless communication models provide people a good deal of mobility. However, wireless devices do not tie down the receiver to a certain location as hard-wired devices do.

Also, a home Wi-Fi network can accommodate only 254 devices. However, a wired communication system is restricted to the number of the equipment’s physical connections. When these run out, the equipment must be replaced in order to support more users. For instance, a typical home Ethernet router provides just eight sockets although its network software is capable of handling 254 users.

Does not Require Physical Connections

A device must be physically connected to a wall jack to allow wired communications to work. Such becomes an issue when the jack is located in an inconvenient location or when the cable is not long enough to reach the jack. Meanwhile, wireless devices do not have cables to connect. Sufficient signal strength allows the device to work.  Also, this is true for mobile computing devices. A laptop or smartphone will connect automatically when it has the local wireless data network’s password. When leaving a location, a mobile device drops the connection automatically and picks up the next strong signal it can find.

No Cabling Means Lower Costs

Wireless communications networks tend to be more affordable to install and maintain than wired systems. Apart from paying the cable’s per-foot cost, users will have to invest labor and time in planning wiring routes and put the wire in place. Such costs will increase when users make changes to the wiring plan. Though even wireless systems require cabling, this involves just a small fraction of what is needed for wired equipment.
